Call of Duty: Modern Warfare review

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare review    I t doesn’t take long for the guilt to set in. You’re holding a handgun in London’s Piccadilly Circus as terrorists run wild with assault rifles and flames bloom from a recently ignited suicide vest. As terrified civilians run past, screaming and wounded, you’re thinking: “Where is the next mission checkpoint?” Call of Duty is perhaps the most divisive mainstream gaming brand of all time; a gung-ho, partisan blockbuster combat romp selling us a vision of rough and ready spec-ops superstars travelling the globe with their guns and their competence, helping freedom fighters while killing rogue paramilitary groups, without pausing too long to consider the differences between them. In 2019’s Modern Warfare, a reimagining of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from 2007, you take control of SAS and CIA operatives as they aid rebel forces in the fictitious country of Urzikstan, which borders Russia and is fighting for its ind...

REVIEW – ASPHALT 9: LEGENDS Review for PC

Review– Asphalt 9: Legends My experience with the Asphalt series of games has been very limited, but somewhat positive. I own the original game for the DS (funny to think the mobile-centered series started as a DS launch title) and Asphalt: Injection for the Vita, one of my favorite games for the system, believe it or not. I never cared too much for the other games released on mobile platforms because I can’t be bothered to play hardware-demanding, battery-consuming titles on a phone screen without buttons, but I decided to give Asphalt 9: Legends a shot, mostly due to the fact you can play the game on your PC (it’s available on the Windows Store). I liked what I saw, but Asphalt 9 didn’t exactly blow me away. Right from the getgo, the thing that impressed me the most was Asphalt 9‘s visuals. Even though this game originated on cellphones, I was actually impressed by its graphics. The cars are very detailed, the lighting effects are top notch, and the framerate is excell...

Video Game Review: ‘Mortal Kombat 11’

Video Game Review: ‘Mortal Kombat 11’ "Mortal Kombat 11” is like a slasher film, a bloody mess that evokes emotion in the same ways that the horror genre does—specifically, the more campy horror flicks. Developed by NetherRealm Studios, “Mortal Kombat 11” doesn’t try to scare players with jump scares or psychological horror, but is instead blatant in its unrestrained gore. NetherRealm is playing off very real human, primal fear of blood and guts as a way to force a sort of terror on its players. In “Splatter Movies: Breaking the Last Taboo,” horror expert John McCarty wrote that splatter movies, a term he coined to describe gory films, “aim not to scare their audiences, necessarily, nor to drive them to the edge of their seats in suspense, but to mortify them with scenes of explicit gore.” “In splatter movies, mutilation is indeed the message—many times the only one,” McCarty wrote. “Mortal Kombat 11,” of course, isn’t a film, though the story mode certainly feels...
