  • Publisher: Valve Corporation.

    • Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena spawned from a Warcraft III mode called Defense of the Ancients, which is arguably responsible for establishing the MOBA genre and leading to many copycat titles, among them the popular League of Legends. Two teams of five players face off against one another with the aim of destroying the others Ancient, a structure in each team’s base surrounded by protective turrets. Each player chooses a hero from an extensive pool of characters, each with their own skills, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Other than the enemy team, players must also contend with AI-controlled creeps on the opposing team as well as creatures scattered across the map. While there’s a lot more to the game in terms of a raw strategy, this is the basic premise of each match of Dota 2. But, with a vibrant esports scene, Dota 2 can be among the most complex and tactical games around, requiring a high skill level and game knowledge from the best players.

      Optimal Hardware Suggestions

Despite a slew of updates and a steady stream of new content from developer Valve, Dota 2 is over six years old, and as such, the requirements aren’t all that stringent.
The minimum system requirements should produce 30 FPS at 720p, with the settings evened out between low and medium. If you have a reasonably new PC with recent integrated graphics, you may have some luck playing the game, but we recommend going for a dedicated GPU if possible.
The recommended requirements up the FPS count to 60 FPS or more at 1080p with the settings on high or even ultra. The in-game settings offer quite a few options to tinker with, so you can mold the performance to your liking quite easily, whether that be favoring higher FPS or better visual fidelity.
As a general note, the game is only 15 GB, a nice change from beefy 50 to 100 GB installs for many other titles, and the RAM requirements are more than reasonable.

What Gaming PC Do We Recommend?

If you’re not sure what to look for, we recommend considering our $500 build. It gathers together choice budget and mid-range components that, despite their lower price, offer excellent relative performance.
We have an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 CPU, Radeon RX 570, and 16 GB of 3200 MHz DDR4 RAM. With this setup, you’ll be storming through Dota 2 with setting maxed out at 1080p or above and buttery smooth frames.
If you plan to play more demanding titles beyond Dota 2, you might also want to consider our $600 build with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 instead of the AMD RX 570 GPU. That extra power can provide quite a substantial performance difference in more hardware hungry games.
